Dominic Calvert-Lewin was denied the chance to make a small piece of Elland Road history in Leeds' goalless home draw with Crystal Palace.
The 29-year-old looked odds-on to celebrate his England call-up this week with his fifth goal of the season, only for Palace goalkeeper Walter Benítez to save his point-blank second-half effort from James Justin's cross.
The in-form striker could not have come any closer to equalling Mark Viduka's 23-year-old record of scoring in six consecutive top-flight home games for the club on a frustrating afternoon for Daniel Farke's side.
Former fans' favourite Viduka achieved the feat on the opening day of the 2003-04 season in a 2-2 draw with Newcastle, having struck in each of Leeds' last five home games in the previous campaign.
Viduka matched the scoring exploits of Arthur Hydes, who scored in six successive top-flight fixtures for Leeds at Elland Road in 1932.
Calvert-Lewin's renaissance since joining Leeds on a free transfer in August last year earned him an England recall the following March.
His 14 Premier League goals last season placed him seventh in the top-flight's scoring chart and although he missed out on last summer's World Cup, he has been included in Thomas Tuchel's squad for the upcoming Nations League games.
