PSV Eindhoven striker Ricardo Pepi had to be substituted because of injury in the club's match on Sunday, giving the U.S. men's national team a possible selection headache.
U.S. manager Mauricio Pochettino had called Pepi into a 28-player squad for the upcoming FIFA international window.
The U.S. will play Peru on Sept. 26 in Orlando, Florida, Chile on Sept. 29 in St. Louis, Mexico on Oct. 3 in Glendale, Arizona, and Canada on Oct. 6 in St. Paul, Minnesota. Players were due to report for international duty Sunday.
However, Pepi lasted only eight minutes in PSV's match in the Dutch Eredivisie against FC Twente. Pepi raised his hand to the bench and sank to the turf before his outing ended early.
Fellow forward Christian Pulisic, who has only just returned to fitness for AC Milan, and Folarin Balogun, who made his first appearance of the season for Monaco on Friday, are already missing from the U.S. roster.
Pochettino had called up Cavan Sullivan, the 16-year-old who is taking MLS by storm for the Philadelphia Union. Cole Campbell, Justin Ellis and Julian Hall are the other forwards picked by Pochettino.
