Indiana running back Khobie Martin, set to be part of the team's ball-carrying rotation this season, will miss some time after leaving Saturday's season opener with an apparent arm injury.
Coach Curt Cignetti said Martin will be "out a little bit" after playing but not recording a carry in the Hoosiers' 52-16 victory against North Texas. Boston College transfer Turbo Richard and Lee Beebe Jr., who returned after missing most of last season with a knee injury, handled most of the carries for IU.
Martin had 505 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 78 carries last year as Indiana's No. 3 running back, behind Roman Hemby and Kaelon Black. The 6-foot, 210-pound native of Fishers, Indiana, is in his third season with the Hoosiers.
Cignetti said the injuries to starting cornerbacks A.J. Harris and Jamari Sharpe, who both left the North Texas game, do not appear to be serious.
North Texas held edges in total yards (367-365) and first downs (19-18) against Indiana, which forced only two punts in the win.
"I didn't think we played real well on defense," Cignetti said. "Had a soft balance, whether it was poor tackling, out on the perimeter. When you play a first game, especially with a new [North Texas] staff, you're not exactly sure what you're going to see offensively. You see some looks that you haven't practiced, you have to make some adjustments. That was the case."
