Sydney Savoury, No. 9 recruit for 2027, commits to UConn

Sydney Savoury, the No. 9 women's basketball prospect in the 2027 SC Next 100, has committed to UConn, she announced Friday.

One of the nation's most accomplished scoring guards, the 5-foot-11 Michigan native chose Geno Auriemma and the Huskies over USC, North Carolina, Texas, Notre Dame and UCLA. She is UConn's first commitment of the 2027 recruiting cycle and extends the Huskies' streak of at least one five-star prospect for a 13th consecutive recruiting class.

"I chose UConn because of its incredible culture, dedicated coaching staff and tradition of excellence and winning," Savoury told ESPN. "The program's championship mentality, high standards and commitment to pushing athletes to reach their full potential both on and off the court are everything I want to be a part of.

"I truly believe UConn is the perfect place for me to continue growing as a player, student and person. I am beyond grateful for this opportunity and cannot wait to get started and be part of such a special program."

Savoury was named the 2024-25 Gatorade Michigan Girls Basketball Player of the Year as a sophomore, then averaged 27 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists as a junior, leading Belleville High School to a 25-2 record. She also represented USA Basketball at the 2026 FIBA U18 Women's AmeriCup, averaging 5.8 points and 3.2 rebounds in a supporting role, including a 15-point performance against Argentina.

When Savoury gets to college, expect a guard who can flat out score. She earned MVP honors on the Nike EYBL circuit after averaging 21.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists. Savoury's ability to catch and shoot beyond the arc, attack defenders with physicality off the dribble and finish around the rim makes her a tough cover.

She is also an impressive rebounder, and her basketball IQ allows her to initiate the break as a secondary ball handler.

At UConn, Savoury projects as an aggressive scoring guard who can hunt 3-pointers early and often while also creating opportunities for others. Her defensive physicality and rebounding will fit the Huskies' up-tempo style and give Auriemma more defensive flexibility.

UConn remains in the hunt for other elite prospects, including No. 1 Kaleena Smith, No. 3 Ivanna Wilson Manyacka, No. 8 Haylen Ayers, and 6-5 Hungarian post Kinga Josepovits. The Huskies are following up a 2026 class that solidified their interior future with post Olivia Vukosa, and brought two international perimeter additions in Jovana Popovic (Serbia) and Marine Dursus (France).

UConn entered the 2026-27 season ranked No. 2 in the AP preseason poll.
