Michael Carrick has raised concerns about Benjamin Sesko's latest injury by revealing the problem is connected to the same shin issue which kept the striker sidelined for more than two months over the summer.
Sesko missed the final three games of last season with the injury which also prevented the 23-year-old from taking part in any of United's preseason fixtures.
He returned as a substitute on the opening weekend against Hull, one of six appearances in all competitions he's made this season.
But after starting the 3-2 Carabao Cup defeat to Brighton on Wednesday, Sesko was absent from the squad against Fulham on Sunday.
And afterwards Carrick revealed the Slovenian is suffering from recurrence of the same shin problem.
"We're not sure with Ben yet," the United head coach said.
"He felt a bit of pain after the game [against Brighton] so we're assessing him. At the moment, he definitely wasn't ready for [Fulham], so I haven't really got any more news to give you at this point. We'll have to see what that brings."

- Michael Carrick keen to find Man United positives, but there aren't many right now
Carrick will hope that the extended international break gives some of his injured players time to get back to full fitness.
Summer signing Carlos Baleba was on the bench for the first time at Craven Cottage while Matthijs de Ligt made the trip to London, but wasn't fit enough to be named in the squad.
Winger Amad Diallo is yet to play this season. Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo were both named in the England squad, but ongoing issues may mean they are forced to pull out.
