LOS ANGELES -- Rams outside linebacker Myles Garrett is expected to play Sunday against the Commanders "barring any sort of setbacks" with his knee injury, coach Sean McVay said Friday.

McVay said the expectation was that Garrett will be activated from injured reserve ahead of Sunday's game after returning to practice this week. Tight end Terrance Ferguson also returned to practice, but the team listed him as out on the updated injury report with ankle and hamstring injuries.

The Rams are still working through how much Garrett will play, McVay said, adding that the pass rusher has "really done a great job in practice" this week.

"He has progressed really well, made a tremendous impact in practice on Wednesday and Thursday [and] feels really comfortable with the game plan," McVay said. "And it's been great having him out there as well as Terrence."

If Garrett is active as expected, he will play alongside defensive tackle Aaron Donald for the first time. Donald did not play in Week 1 -- Garrett's first and only game for the Rams so far -- while working his way back from retirement.

"I think the offenses really have to pick their poison," Garrett said of playing with Donald. "Who's going to be freed up this play? And I think either of us are pretty good at winning one-on-one, so we'll have some fun."

Garrett has been on injured reserve since undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery in mid-September. He played in the Rams' season opener but said after the game that he was not 100% healthy. Garrett missed most of training camp while dealing with what McVay called knee irritation at the time.

There wasn't one moment where Garrett injured his knee, he said, but it "just cascaded" and then got worse as he played against the San Francisco 49ers.

"There were just some hitches in my gait," Garrett said. "There were just things I was dealing with mechanically that just only continued to evolve, or I guess worsen, as I played more throughout that game."

Ferguson has missed five games after spraining his ankle in Week 3 against the Denver Broncos.

The Rams traded for Garrett this offseason, sending two-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Jared Verse and three draft picks, including a first-round selection in 2027, to the Cleveland Browns. Garrett was the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2025 after setting the single-season sack record with 23 for the Browns.

McVay said cornerback Trent McDuffie -- another big offseason addition for the Rams -- would not practice again Friday and will be questionable for Sunday's game. McDuffie injured his back in Week 8 against the Los Angeles Chargers.
