André Onana concedes direct from corner, saves penalty, as Mo Salah scores again

André Onana endured a rollercoaster performance for Trabzonspor on Thursday in the Conference League.

The on-loan Manchester United goalkeeper conceded a poor goal but saved a penalty as his side beat Kuopion Palloseura 4-2.

Trabzonspor gained a third-minute lead from former Southampton striker Paul Onuachu.

Mohamed Salah, who joined after leaving Liverpool this summer and has eight goals in his past eight games, made it 2-0 before half-time.

It was 3-0 after 47 minutes but the Finnish side Kuopion Palloseura were handed a lifeline when a corner from Petteri Pennanen sailed over Onana and found the back of the net. The goalkeeper jumped but couldn't reach the ball and was left slumped after conceding.

Onana made amends by saving a penalty shortly after, diving to his right to keep the strike out before watching the rebound soar over the bar.

Franculino Dju scored his second for Trabzonspor to make it 4-1 in stoppage time before Kuopion Palloseura added a consolation.

Onana is into his second consecutive season on loan in Türkiye from United. He initially joined United in 2023 from Inter Milan but fell out of favour. He was informed in the summer that he wouldn't be a part of Michael Carrick's plans. Onana still has two more years to run on his United contract.
