Ruben Amorim has vowed not to repeat the mistakes of his Manchester United tenure at AC Milan.
Amorim lost his job in Manchester after his trademark 3-4-3 formation failed to click. He was only in charge for 14 months, winning just 24 of his 63 matches.
Now in the dugout at Milan, he intends to learn from the past.
"I can't repeat my mistakes of Manchester United, if we don't have the characteristics to play in a certain style then we will adapt," Amorim was quoted by Gazzetta dello Sport.
His Milan side broke from his usual tactic by using a back four in a 3-0 win against Lecce in Italy's Serie A at the weekend. Christian Pulisic, Adrien Rabiot and Diego Moreira scored the goals.
Amorim added: "We'll go back to building with three, but we'll see. Here in Italy, the coaches are very good, especially at going after other teams one-on-one."
Luka Modric, 41, is still a mainstay in Milan's midfield.

"With Modric, we need to have the ball for a long time, but he's ready to play every game we need," Amorim said. "If we only play transition games, it's not good for him."
Milan are fifth in Serie A after five games, two points behind leaders Roma.
His old side United, meanwhile -- now led permanently by Michael Carrick who initially replaced Amorim temporarily -- have started their Premier League campaign poorly with just one win in five.
