Kylian Mbappé has reiterated his desire to win the Ballon d'Or but has called for more support from Real Madrid fans after a trophyless two years at the club.
The 27-year-old -- who is now the top scorer in World Cup history after adding 10 goals to his tally this summer -- is among the favourites for the award alongside the likes of Harry Kane and Lamine Yamal.
That is despite the fact that Madrid were beaten to the LaLiga title by Yamal's Barcelona and knocked out of the Champions League at the quarterfinal stage by Kane's Bayern Munich.
Madrid are currently second in LaLiga having slipped up against Real Betis, a match in which Mbappé missed a penalty.
"I think it can be a good year, but it doesn't depend on me," Mbappé said in an interview with AS.
"I want the Ballon d'Or to return to Real Madrid -- it's the best club in the world. I want it to return to the Bernabéu, to the Madrid fans.
"My objective is always to help my teammate, to do my best and to convince the people who vote, because at the end of the day, like you, they vote, right?"
The Frenchman also addressed the boos which have been directed at him and Vinícius Júnior by home fans at the Bernabéu.
"We didn't win anything last season, people are tired of it now," he said.
"I understand it. It's just that, like everything, there's a context to it. Sometimes when we win they [the Madrid fans] see that it's a difficult game.
"They need to know that right now we need the Bernabéu because it's the best stadium in the world, we have the best fans in the world and when we have them with us we're much stronger.
"But I also understand that there's an expectation. There's a part of it that I don't understand, which is normal, but they also have to understand that if we want to win titles, we're not going to win them without them."
