Manchester City won a hugely controversial derby 1-0 thanks to a second-half goal from Erling Haaland, despite going down to 10 players when Phil Foden was sent off midway through the first half.
The Norwegian's strike came after Enzo Fernández attempted to head the ball from an offside position, with Manchester United boss Michael Carrick calling the decision "staggering" after the game.
City came into the game in good form, with Enzo Maresca's side having won four from four games in the Premier League and Champions League so far.
It may not all have been plain sailing -- City needed a late turnaround to win 2-1 against Bournemouth on the opening day, and edged a narrow 1-0 win over newly-promoted Coventry in their other home game.
But on the road, City have been nearly word-perfect, claiming a comfortable 4-1 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park before two second-half goals from Erling Haaland gave them the victory over Porto in the Champions League on Tuesday.
It has been a different story for United, though. Michael Carrick's side came into Sunday with four points from their first three Premier League games, having started the season with a chastening 2-0 defeat at newly-promoted Hull.
They followed that up with a morale-boosting 5-2 victory over Ipswich, but Ainsley Maitland-Niles' stoppage-time screamer at the Hill Dickinson Stadium meant they had to settle for a 2-2 draw.
United's 4-0 over Sabah in midweek may have improved things somewhat, but Sunday's result could prove very damaging given how long they played with a man advantage.
