Lucas Bergvall has ended doubts over his long-term future by signing a new contract at Tottenham.
Swedish midfielder Bergvall was the subject of bids from Nottingham Forest and Newcastle this summer after he made clear his unhappiness over a lack of minutes in his favoured position during a difficult 2025-26 campaign.
Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi used Bergvall regularly throughout preseason before he started in the club's Premier League opener at Brentford and the highly-rated 20-year-old has now agreed fresh terms to stay in north London.
Bergvall, who has made 80 appearances since he joined from Djurgården in 2024, told the official club website: "I think we're building something great here. It's an exciting time for the club and that's why I'm happy to extend my contract.
"I'm always trying to achieve as much as possible, to be the best version of myself both on and off the pitch and I know this is the right place to do that.
"Personally, my goal is to produce more for the team -- performances, goals and assists -- to help as much as I can. I'm getting better every day in training and I'm looking forward to what will be a really good season ahead."

At a news conference on Friday ahead of Spurs' game against Everton, De Zerbi said: "I am delighted for the extension of his contract. He is working very well.
"It is difficult because of the competition in his position. [Sandro] Tonali, [Rodrigo] Bentancur and [Conor] Gallagher are all a high level, but at the end of the season he will play a part in many games, I think, and then he has to improve.
"We have to help him improve and he has to work like he is doing and especially in this season. At the beginning of preseason he has been fantastic."
Tottenham's sporting director Johan Lange said: "Lucas is an outstanding young player with enormous potential and we are delighted that he has committed his future to the club.
"This new contract is a reflection of our belief in Lucas and the role we see him playing both now and in the future of the club."
De Zerbi stays quiet on Richarlison's future
Bergvall can expect to be involved against Everton, but Richarlison will not face his old club after he was left out of Spurs' 25-man Premier League squad list following a dramatic couple of weeks.
Richarlison has still not secured a move away after De Zerbi claimed he "decided everything alone" last week and with transfer windows in Saudi Arabia and Turkey now shut, the last option is a return to Brazil where the deadline to sign players is midnight on Friday.
Quizzed for an update on Richarlison in Friday's news conference, De Zerbi said: "I don't know.
"It's not my job. What I can say is I know very well what the club has done for Richarlison and I know very well what Richarlison has done for the club in the last month, two months.
"I know, the club knows, he knows, his agent knows. Everyone knows better than you [the media]. Much better."
