Commentary
Netherlands found a deserved late winner after a questionable penalty decision awarded to them beyond the 95 minutes that were added on. At this stage, it is all about much-needed minutes in the players' legs as well as getting acclimatised with the US heat. Gakpo stoodout with the matchwinner showing his quality from minute one. It maybe slightly concerning though for Koeman that he was the only one able to take his chances, and even they both came from the spot. Reijnders, Brobbey and Malen were all constantly off target throughout. The Dutch peppered the Uzbek goal having had 15 attempts. Uzbekistan thought they had found a lifeline in the 92nd minute through substitute Sergeev, who slotted home coolly. It's the real thing now for both sides with the World Cup kicking off on Thursday. Netherlands will face Japan while Cannavaro's men will take on Colombia.
FULL TIME: NETHERLANDS 2-1 UZBEKISTAN
GAKPO HAS WON IT FROM THE SPOT!!! 2-1 TO NETHERLANDS!!!
The referee has bizzarely awarded a penalty. We're in the 97th minute now. Van Hecke was pulled back from a corner. It didn't seem enough for a penalty but the referee has awarded it.
BIG SAVE FROM YUSUPOV. Summerville latched onto a Dumfries header but the goalkeeper stands tall.
HOW HAS THAT STAYED OUT?!?!?! From inside the six-yard box, Reijnders was unable to convert to find a late winner for Netherlands. It was the exact same trio that combined in the first half with Gakpo finding Dumfries who laid it in the path for the midfielder, but he seemed to bluff his lines.
