The likes of Havertz, Musiala, and Nmecha all came close to finding the opener for the Germans, but it was Ivory Coast that took the lead. Brown brilliantly blocked Diallo’s effort, but nobody could stop Kessie from smashing home from close range. Germany twice had the ball in the back of the net before they eventually scored, with Nmecha and Musiala deemed to have committed fouls on both occasions. Undav, who came on as part of a triple substitution, changed the game for Germany. Germany ended the match with the higher expected goals, with it being 1.83-1.23 in their favour. Germany will win group E with a point in their last match, or if Ecuador fail to beat Curacao later today. Ivory Coast may have been safe with four points, but now they will go into the final game knowing that they may need a result to reach the knockout rounds for the first time.
