It's all over, and it's two wins from two for the USA following a comfortable 2-0 victory over Australia as the co-hosts booked their place in the knockout rounds! The USA took the lead when Burgess scored an own goal after 11 minutes and Freeman added a second just before half-time, with a VAR review required to ensure his header was allowed to stand. Popovic made three changes at half-time, but there was no deviation in Australia's approach to the game, as they continued to sit back and let the USA control possession. The Socceroos eventually started to threaten, but it was too little too late, with the hosts having very little to worry about as they saw out the three points. The USA only managed one shot in the second half, which added just 0.1 to their xG from the opening period. Still, with Australia only mustering three efforts for a combined xG of 0.32, their win never really looked in doubt. The result means that if Turkiye do not beat Paraguay later, the USA will be guaranteed to finish top of the group and face a third-placed team in the round of 32. Things get a bit heated between Souttar and Balogun, and then Trusty goes to ground following a confrontation with Italiano.

HUGE CHANCE FOR AUSTRALIA! Italiano stands a looping cross up at the back post and Bos cuts it back into the middle. Souttar can't connect but Geria does, although his effort is blocked by Adams. The referee then seems to belatedly blow his whistle for a free-kick to the USA somewhere in the melee.

Irankunda goes down in the box following a collision with Richards and Australia appeal for a penalty but the referee is unmoved. Irvine pushes forward on the left and earns a corner with his cross going behind off Richards.

The USA have really stepped off the gas here. Australia are enjoying a greater deal of possession and have already managed to put in a few good crosses. Another delivery from the right, this time from Metcalfe, bends narrowly away from Bos at the back post.
