European champions Spain are held 0-0 by World Cup debutants Cape Verde in one of the biggest upsets in the competition's long history. Spain had a whopping 27 shots, compared to six for their opponents, but none of the seven they managed on target could find a way past the inspired Vozinha. The 40-year-old produced some brilliant stops late in the first half to deny Oyarzabal, Laporte and Torres, with the latter also hitting the crossbar from Spain's best chance of the contest. Cape Verde had their own moments as they broke forward, but they lacked the quality required in the final third. Still, a point against the 2010 World Cup winners will go down as the greatest moment in their history. La Roja's xG of 2.29, compared to 0.3 for their opponents, paints a picture of what played out in Atlanta. But ultimately it is what you do with the ball and Spain just could not find a goal as Group H gets off to an exciting start.

HEROIC DEFENDING! Olmo picks out Oyarzabal, whose first-time shot is heading for the target if not for a superb block from Lopes down low. That is brilliant from the Cape Verde defender.

There are two minutes to go in Atlanta, plus you would imagine about six or so more added on. The truth is Cape Verde are not exactly holding on. Spain are on top but it is just so pedestrian.

Rodri is way off target with his scuffed shot. We are at the point now where the Spain players are starting to get seriously desperate.

ANOTHER CHANCE! The ball is flicked on and you think this is the moment for Cucurella, but he heads it right at Vozinha. The Cape Verde keeper did well to stay on his line, rather than come out for the cross.

SHOT! Yamal gets away from his man down the right and feeds it to Llorente, who in turn picks out Merino. The substitute's effort is one of the easier ones Vozinha has had to deal with.

Yamal has instantly injected a bit more impetus, with the crowd feeding off that. Sidney Cabral is on a yellow down that flank, remember, so he has to be careful over these next 20 minutes.
