Hull v Man United
Play By Play
The full-time whistle goes, and Hull make a dream start in their return to the Premier League with a 2-0 win over Manchester United. First-half goals from centre-back duo Ajayi and Mendy were enough to see the Tigers claim their first-ever victory over United in the Premier League on a dismal afternoon for the visitors. Ajayi got Hull going on 17 minutes when he latched onto a loose ball in the box with a close-range finish. Mendy then doubled his side's lead on the 38-minute mark when he fired home from Slater's free-kick on his Premier League debut. In truth, United never really looked like mounting a comeback on what was a concerning afternoon for Carrick and co. Hull recorded 1.26 xG in total across the 90 minutes, compared to United's 1.81, and the hosts now look to a trip to Stoke City in the EFL Cup on Tuesday. Meanwhile, United prepare to face Ipswich Town next Sunday as they look to put today's stunning upset behind them. That's all for this one, thanks for joining us!
FULL-TIME: HULL CITY 2-0 MANCHESTER UNITED

Hull's Millar is shown a yellow card for simulation down the right-hand side. Not his proudest moment.
The United possession continues, but they still don't look remotely close to scoring. This has been a really concerning performance from the visitors.
Rashford crosses into the box towards Sesko, who gets up to greet the ball with his head, but Egan is there once again with a block before it bobbles into the hands of Tzolakis. Egan has been outstanding for his side today.
United's passing has been so slow and laboured this afternoon. They've hardly threatened the Hull backline.
There will be SIX minutes of added time at the end of the second half. Not quite time for those Hull celebrations yet...
Fernandes sees another shot from range deflect behind for a corner. The Portuguese midfielder steps up to take it from the left and plays a short pass to Shaw. He then returns it to Fernandes, who tries to catch Tzolakis out at his near post, but the Hull goalkeeper keeps his eye on the ball and gathers it comfortably.
Hull remain without a shot on target in the second half, but all eyes will be on the other end of the field as they look to hang onto their 2-0 lead. United don't really look like scoring.

Hull make their final change as Targett replaces Giles.
United continue to probe for a late goal as Maguire picks up the ball on the right. The England defender then cuts inside and tries his luck with a left-footed shot, but it's straight at Tzolakis, who saves it comfortably. The visitors are running out of ideas here.
Shaw has created four goalscoring chances vs Hull today, which is his most in a Premier League game since August 2023 (six vs Tottenham). None of them have led to anything as of yet, though.
Mainoo is incredibly fortunate as his square pass allows Millar to steal ahead of Dalot and break down the left. Fortunately for United, the Hull man's cross falls straight to Maguire, who eventually clears.

United youngster Lacey also comes on for Cunha.

United make another change as Dalot replaces Mazraoui.
VITAL SAVE BY TZOLAKIS!! The Hull goalkeeper does brilliantly to prevent Mbeumo from pulling one back. It was a brilliant swivel and pass by Cunha to free Mbeumo behind the Hull defence, but the latter can't find a way past Tzolakis, who holds onto his clean sheet.
Mbeumo searches for a route back as he's found by Mazraoui on the right. Mbeumo then cuts inside and looks to bend a shot into the far corner, but there's far too much behind the effort and the ball sails high into the crowd.
Hull haven't had a shot on target so far in the second half, but they won't care so long as they hold onto their lead in the final 15 minutes here.
HULL ARE INCHES AWAY FROM A THIRD!! Drameh almost hits the ground running just minutes after coming on as he drags a right-footed effort wide from the edge of the box. It was brilliant work from McBurnie to find Drameh, who is agonisingly close to sealing the points for the Tigers.
United have recorded just 0.43 xG so far in the second half. The substitutions have failed to make an impact so far.

The hosts make another switch, with Millar replacing Stroud.

Hull are forced into another change as Coyle is indeed unable to continue and is replaced by Drameh.
Hull captain Coyle is down and appears to have picked up a knock to his left ankle. Coyle is currently receiving treatment, but it's unclear whether he'll be forced off.

United also bring on Mainoo, who replaces Tielemans.

United make their first changes, with Sesko replacing Santos.
