A superb start for Newcastle was enough to secure them three points today, beating Hull 2-1 at St. James’ Park. Willock opened the scoring in the third minute, when the midfielder blasted a strike past Tzolakis at his near post. Just four minutes later, it was 2-0 for the hosts. Hall found himself in space on the left side of the penalty area, before arrowing a low effort into the bottom-right corner. Newcastle squandered a major chance to wrap up the whole match before the half-time interval, when Wissa saw a penalty saved by the outstretched Tzolakis. Hull looked to be dead and buried in the second half, with Newcastle looking the more likely to get the third goal of the match, but that was until the 67th minute, when Cho found a goal minutes after coming on. From that point on, Hull threw absolutely everything at Hornicek and his defence, but simply couldn’t find a late, and deserved, equaliser. Newcastle ended the afternoon with the higher xG, with it being 1.41-1.24 in their favour. Incredibly, Hull had 21 shots in the match, with 18 of them coming in the second half! The result sees Newcastle go level on points with Hull and only behind them on goal difference, with the two sides sitting in seventh and eighth. LATE CORNER FOR HULL – TZOLAKIS IS UP FOR IT!
This is now end to end at St. James’ Park! Newcastle are looking to break forwards whenever they can win the ball back, but Hull have had 85% possession in the last 10 minutes!
It is backs to the wall and just clear at all costs for Newcastle here. Hull are all over the home side! There will be a minimum of six minutes of added time.
It has been a super attacking display from Hull, who have had four times the number of shots this half compared to the first (three in the first, 12 so far in the second).
A late change for Newcastle sees Willock replaced by Bamba. He had a quiet game after his third-minute goal.
Amazingly, after a shocking start, Hul would certainly not be underserving of getting a result here...
At the other end, Barnes nearly seals the victory! He breaks in behind, but his poked effort is saved by the standing Tzolakis’ foot.
CRUCIAL DEFENDING FROM WISSA! McBurnie looks like he certainly is going to score, as the ball falls kindly to him on the edge of the six-yard box. Wissa is the furthest man back, and he managed to get a foot in and stop McBurnie from scoring. Iroegbunam is next in line to have a chance for Hull, but the midfielder’s effort goes just over the bar.
In another attacking change, Gelhardt is on for Belloumi.
Just under 10 minutes plus added time to go. Hull are truly on the front foot now, with the Newcastle fans beginning to get frustrated with the way their side are dealing with the situation.
The second change see’s the introduction of Vaz, who is on for Egan.

Almost a major opening for McBurnie to tap home, after a defensive mix-up causes the ball to drop inside the area. Unfortunately for Hull, it is too close to Hornicek, who comes out and claims back possession.
A change for Newcastle. Fernandez-Pardo makes way, due to a slight knock, as Traore is on in his place.
HULL APPLYING MORE PRESSURE! This looks to be a blockbuster ending. Belloumi picks up possession just entering the final third, before trying to curl a left-footed strike around Hornicek. It is a comfortable stop for the goalkeeper, who can dive and palm away from danger.
Newcastle need to be careful here that they don't let the lead slip. They looked to be in total control after seven minutes, but wasted chances, as well as a penalty, has allowed Hull right back into the match.
Lewis Miley has only been in the midfield a minute when he made the error. It is something he would've gotten away with possibly at right-back, but Belloumi and Cho made sure that his poor touch was punished.
Belloumi, who has been Hull’s biggest threat, picks up an assist for his clever pass.
GOAALLLLLLL!!!!! HULL HAVE PULLED ONE BACK!!!! CHO WITH THE INSTANT IMPACT!!!!! Lewis Miley’s lose control in his own half gives Belloumi the chance to steel the ball back. He quickly finds Cho, who makes no mistake and finds the bottom-left corner despite being off balance. 2-1 and game on!
Here comes the first change for Newcastle. The ever-reliable Schar is on for Steur, who looks to have picked up some sort of knock.
WIDE BY BARNES! Instead of being the provider, this time Barnes goes for goal himself. He cleverly shifts onto his stronger right foot, before trying to smash a strike in the near side of the goal. His effort fails to find the target, going just wide of the post.
Here comes the second Hull change. Thomas, who gave away the penalty that was missed, is replaced by Cho.
We have just reached a slight lull in the match. Newcastle are currently trying to break down the compact Hull defensive structure, but to no avail in the second half.
