Argentina v Iceland
Play By Play
FULL-TIME: ARGENTINA 3-0 ICELAND
LATE CHANCE FOR ICELAND! Seeking a consolation, they work the ball into the box from the left flank. Gudjohnsen, seeming a little surprised that the ball reaches him, cannot react quickly enough, and nods wide from inside the six-yard box.
We will play a further three minutes at the end of this second half, as indicated by the fourth official.
Argentina look to finish with a flourish as Lautaro Martinez is released down the left. He cuts inside and unselfishly lays the ball off for Messi, who is blocked by a recovering Iceland defender. However, the offside flag subsequently goes up, so it wouldn't have counted anyway.
If that was a glimpse of what's to come, then we can be really excited about watching Argentina at the World Cup. Scaloni's side are aiming to become only the third nation to successfully defend the title, and first to do so outside their own continent.

ALMADA!!! 3-0! WHAT A LOVELY, LOVELY GOAL! It's a superb counter by the world champions. De Paul plays a one-two with Messi and darts into the penalty area. He then has the presence of mind to square the ball for Almada, who neatly tucks a first-time shot into the bottom corner. That simply oozed the quality you'd associate with world champions.
De Paul was the architect, playing a one-two with Messi before putting the ball on a plate for Almada.
CHANCE FOR ICELAND! They should have pulled a goal back! From just inside the centre-circle, Gylfi Sigurdsson floats an inviting deep free-kick into the heart of the Argentina penalty area. Gunnarsson is unmarked, but he can't keep his header down. That should be 2-1!

Oskarsson has had a quiet game today. He is replaced by Gudjohnsen – son of former Chelsea striker Eidur, and grandson of Iceland legend Arnor.

Ellertsson, who had that early chance, is replaced by Arnor Sigurdsson.

Johannesson is also given a breather, and here comes 36-year-old Gylfi Sigurdsson for his 86th cap.

Gudmundsson comes off to be replaced by Ingason.

Haraldsson's place is taken by Thordarson.

Here come those Iceland changes. Magnusson is replaced by Hermannsson in the first of them.
It looks like there will be further activity on the Iceland bench, with more players being readied as we enter the final 10 minutes.

Though this is a friendly, the challenges continue to keep flying in. Gunnarsson's boot is raised as he challenges De Paul, and goes into the book.

Thorsteinsson is the latest player into the book, after he's a little too forceful in a challenge.

Lautaro Martinez jumps into a sliding challenge, but is a little bit late, and has his name taken.
It remains to be seen how Messi will be utilised during the World Cup. Will he be a regular starter? Will he come off the bench? If it is the latter, he's just demonstrated how quickly he can make an impact on proceedings.

MESSI SCORES!!! OF COURSE HE DOES! It's only taken two minutes for Messi to delight the Alabama crowd. He steps up to the penalty spot, and calmly lifts it into the roof of the net, leaving Olafsson clutching at thin air.

PENALTY TO ARGENTINA! With his first touches, Messi produces a lovely throughball to release Lautaro Martinez, whose dinked effort trickles inches wide of the post. However, the Inter skipper was taken out by the goalkeeper in the process, and the referee points to the spot. No prizes for guessing who will take this penalty...

Montiel, who scored the winning penalty in the 2022 World Cup final, also comes on in place of Giay.

It's time for Messi, who enters for the final 20 minutes. Simeone is the player to make way.

Gretarsson is also given a breather, with Gunnarsson taking his place.

There's also activity on the Iceland bench, as Tomasson makes way for Thorhallsson.
