Justin Sourdif became the second member of the Washington Capitals who committed to the team Tuesday after signing an eight-year contract worth $6.35 million annually.
The 24-year-old Sourdif went from one point in four NHL games to having a breakthrough in his first full NHL season in 2025-26 when he scored 15 goals and 35 points in 78 games.
He was one of 11 players who finished with more than 10 goals for the Capitals in a season that saw them finish four points out of the second and final Eastern Conference wild-card playoff spot.
Sourdif was slated to be a restricted free agent as he was in the final season of a two-year deal worth $825,000 annually.
His new contract, which takes effect next season, sees him join a core of a dozen Capitals players who have more than three years left on their contracts.
It's a group that also includes forward Ryan Leonard, who also signed an eight-year deal worth $10.5 million annually that also starts at the beginning of the 2026-27 season.
