News: 1 day agoStevenson rushed six times for 22 yards and brought in all five targets for 93 yards and a touchdown in the Patriots' 30-24 loss to the Bears on Thursday.
Spin: Stevenson had another tough day on the ground, especially considering he gained 13 of his 22 yards on one carry. However, the veteran back had a standout performance as a receiver, leading the Patriots in receiving yards on the night with a big hand from a weaving 48-yard touchdown catch off an end-of-half screen play. Stevenson is now averaging just 3.7 yards per carry across the first seven games of the campaign, but he's up to a 20-204-1 receiving line on 24 targets heading into a Week 8 road matchup against the Dolphins on Sunday, Nov. 1.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: Stevenson will battle with second-year back TreVeyon Henderson for touches in the New England backfield. The duo shared the backfield at times last season, but it was the veteran Stevenson who usually operated as the lead back. He earned the role, ranking fifth among backs in forced missed tackle rate, per PFF, second in yards after contact (2.82) and first in yards per target (9.1). Stevenson, who is entering his sixth season, did miss three games (he has missed time three seasons in a row), and his overall volume was limited (9.3 carries and 2.7 targets per game), which led to a 25th-place finish in fantasy points. Now 28 years old and with Henderson still very much in the mix, Stevenson, who has one top-20 fantasy campaign to his name, is a low-upside bench option.
