Detroit Pistons center Jalen Duren will be out at least two weeks with a right hamstring strain, the team announced Sunday.
Duren suffered the injury in the first half of Friday's win over the Miami Heat. He played only 10 minutes before leaving the game.
"It's tough when you lose a guy that means as much to us as JD does," coach J.B. Bickerstaff said before Sunday's game in Philadelphia. "It's tough. Tough for him. Trying to come back and get himself situated to start the year. You miss those days. It's obviously a little bit difficult for us."
Duren's offseason was marked by a lengthy standoff with the Pistons over a contract extension. He missed media day and the first few practices of training camp before ultimately signing a five-year, $200 million deal.
Last season, he averaged a career high in points (19.5 PPG), made his first All-Star team and was named to the All-NBA third team as the Pistons earned the top seed in the Eastern Conference. But he struggled mightily in the postseason, dropping to 10.2 points per game in 14 playoff games before Detroit's second-round exit.
Duren scored 22 points with nine rebounds in Detroit's season-opening win over the Boston Celtics.
Information from The Associated Press and ESPN's Jamal Collier was used in this report.
