De Larrea's double-double leads Mavericks past Grizzlies

First-round pick Sergio de Larrea posted a double-double with 16 points and 12 assists to lead the Dallas Mavericks to a 96-88 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies in an NBA summer league game Monday at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

Darin Green Jr. led Dallas with 18 points, hitting five 3-pointers. The Mavericks had five players score in double figures, with Jaden Springer adding 17 points, Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu scoring 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting, and Jorge Diaz Graham recording a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Dallas created separation with a late surge, highlighted by a tip-in dunk from Akobundu-Ehiogu that made the score 84-77 with 2:52 to play. De Larrea then hit a 3-pointer with 1:12 left to maintain the lead at 87-80, and Green followed with another 3 with 46 seconds remaining to push the advantage to 10.

Memphis made a final push when Coward was fouled on a made 3-pointer with 41 seconds to go. The play was upgraded to a flagrant 1 foul on Diaz Graham, and Coward converted the free throw for a four-point play that cut the deficit to 90-84. But Coward missed a 3-pointer on the ensuing possession, and Dallas secured the victory with free throws.
