Pitchers to stream on Monday
If this were May, the prudent play would be giving Jonah Tong another start or two before trusting him. Of course, it's September and there are two weeks left in the fantasy season. In his first start since June, Tong gave up four runs but he also fanned an impressive seven with one walk in five frames last week. The New York Mets host the Baltimore Orioles to begin the week, an ideal matchup for Tong. Not only is he working at pitcher-friendly Citi Field, but he also faces a lineup with the sixth-highest strikeout rate and fourth-lowest walk rate facing righties over the last month.
Quinn Mathews posted the first quality start of his career in his last outing. Other than one misstep on the road against the Philadelphia Phillies, the St. Louis Cardinals rookie has limited the opposition to two or fewer runs in his other five efforts. Next up is a home date with the San Francisco Giants, with the 25-year-old southpaw facing a lineup with the fourth-lowest wOBA and 12th-highest strikeout rate facing lefties.
Kade Anderson notched the first of what will be many wins and quality starts in his last outing. Next up for the Seattle Mariners rookie left-hander is a road affair against the Los Angeles Angels. Anderson enjoys a favorable matchup against an offense sporting the ninth-lowest wOBA and third-highest strikeout rate with a lefty on the hill.
Landen Roupp has been one of the streakier pitchers this season. Currently, he's on another roll with a 1.13 ERA and 1.00 WHIP over his last three starts, albeit with just nine strikeouts and eight walks over 16 frames. Roupp takes the hill in Busch Stadium, facing a below-average offense in what portends to be a low-scoring affair.
Hitters to stream on Monday
Spencer Jones has been a frequent visitor in this space, driven by a .400/.462/.600 line over his last 14 games. That said, he's fanned at a 35% clip over this span, but that's more of a long-term concern than a yellow flag with two weeks left in the season. If Jones is slated to face a right-hander, he's in play. On Monday, the New York Yankees visit the Minnesota Twins. Dean Kremer gets the nod and he's yielded 16 homers in just 71 2/3 innings.
Since the break, the New York Mets sport the fifth-best wOBA versus right-handers. A major reason is the emergence of a pair of rookies, with A.J. Ewing and Carson Benge leading the way. The lefty-swinging outfielders enjoy the platoon edge in a home affair with the Baltimore Orioles sending Brandon Young to the hill. Over his last eight outings, the right-hander sports a 5.02 ERA and 1.49 WHIP.
Kody Clemens has taken advantage of opportunities due to the Twins experiencing a plethora of injuries. The 30-year-old utilityman set a career high with 26 homers, and he has a chance to pad his total with a matchup against Yankees' right-hander Will Warren, who has 21 long balls in 142 1/3 innings.
It wasn't clear how Kazuma Okamoto's power would play when he left Japan for the major leagues. With two weeks left in his first MLB season, he has already recorded his first 30-homer year, with 31 and counting. The Toronto Blue Jays take on Troy Melton and the Detroit Tigers. The right-hander has only yielded 13 homers in 18 starts, but five have come over his previous four outings.
