Hoffmann's two-run double helps Nebraska top South Dakota in Lincoln Regional
Kacie Hoffmann hit a clutch two-run double in the sixth inning to lead the Nebraska Cornhuskers to a 4-1 victory over the South Dakota Coyotes in a postseason matchup Friday at Bowlin Stadium in the Lincoln Regional.
The Cornhuskers broke the game open late after trailing early. Hannah Camenzind went 2-for-2 with a walk, double and an RBI. Hannah Coor also drove in a run, finishing 1-for-2 with a triple. Jesse Farrell added a single.
Nebraska starter Alexis Jensen pitched five innings, allowing one earned run on two hits while striking out six. Jordy Frahm, who also doubled, entered in relief and tossed two perfect innings with three strikeouts to secure the win.
South Dakota scored its only run on a solo home run by Autumn Iversen in the fourth inning. Pitcher Madison Evans, who also singled, threw a complete game, allowing four earned runs on six hits over six innings while striking out three.
The game remained scoreless until the top of the fourth, when Iversen's homer gave the Coyotes a 1-0 lead. Nebraska answered in the bottom of the fifth when Coor hit an RBI triple to tie the score, and Camenzind followed with an RBI double to give the Cornhuskers a 2-1 advantage. Nebraska added insurance in the sixth inning on Hoffmann's two-run double to right-center.
